I’ve been working with collage in combination with drawing and painting for the past year. It’s been exciting to think about shape, color and form without also thinking about rendering stuff: trees, clouds, shorelines, etc. I often work on paper in my plein air landscapes and so have started adding torn sections from paintings to the collages, repurposing one work to make another. Then I decided to take it a step further: I have some boxes of artwork and papers from my early childhood. Now those papers are making their way into the collages. Comparing marks I made when I was 4 to marks I’m making now is very engaging.
There’s a separate category you can get to from my Home page of the site, showing more of the collages.
