Printmaking has become a new passion of mine, and a thrilling addition to my practice as an artist. Initially I was working with my familiar subject of landscape, making full color monotypes on a press in Saugatuck with my close friend, Anne Corlett. Back in Traverse City, without a press, I continued to feel the pull to make prints, so began pulling prints by hand, working in black ink directly from a model during weekly figure sessions. This spring and summer the flowers in my yard have pulled at my inspiration and are the subject for my current printmaking work. Looking closely there is so much to see and working with only black ink, with a chunky brush and my rags and my fingers I am endlessly fascinated by the range of marks and values.
I’m showing a selection of figures and florals at Blk Mrkt in Traverse City, August 1 – September 13. 144 Hall Street, Traverse City, MI 49684. You can find these new pieces here on my site, look under the Monotype tab. If you’re interested in purchasing, email me for more information.
I’m teaching a workshop, MONOTYPES TO GO on September 19 at the Old Art Building in Leland. Here’s a link for more info.
